The Paganini Rhapsody design by Chen Yung Cheng takes inspiration from the iconic musical composition, Paganini Liszt La Campanella. This residential project aims to infuse the melody and artistry of the performance into the indoor space, creating a unique and captivating living environment.
The standout feature of the design is the conversion of the original stairs into ramps, providing future convenience for homeowners who may require wheelchair accessibility. Additionally, the red structural reinforcement columns not only enhance the original form but also add a touch of vibrancy to the space.
The living rooms are cleverly hidden behind concealed doors, allowing for a seamless and uncluttered aesthetic. The use of separated metal plates throughout the design echoes the theme, resembling golden keys and strings, further enhancing the musical inspiration.
Utilizing metal plates for surface protection and scratch prevention, meticulous attention to detail is given to the cutting and folding of materials. The combination of different reflective surfaces within the same color system on the facade adds depth and visual interest to the design.
The residential villa, spanning 231 sq.m., underwent a comprehensive redesign process to optimize space utilization and create a harmonious flow throughout the different levels.
By simplifying the original compartments, the design frees up space and introduces large drop curtains to create a more square-shaped area. The redistribution of door and window placements improves natural light and ventilation. The entrance leads to the living room, accessible via a barrier-free ramp, while the left side features the bedroom, bathroom, and storage cabinet. The dining room and kitchen are located on the second floor, with a penetrating space that enhances the three-dimensional feel. The master bedroom and additional storage spaces are situated on the third and fourth floors.
The Paganini Rhapsody design project commenced in April 2020 in Taiwan and was completed in October 2020. Extensive research and planning were undertaken to ensure the safety and structural integrity of the floor, stairs, and metal components.
Overcoming various challenges, such as transforming high-rise steps into barrier-free ramps and calculating the bearing capacity of H-shaped steel and modeling structural columns, the design successfully combines functionality with artistic expression.
The Paganini Rhapsody design by Chen Yung Cheng is a testament to the designer's ability to merge music, art, and architecture into a cohesive and visually stunning residential space.
